FAQ's
What are Syrène bikinis made of?
Syrène bikinis are made from light quick drying viscose with a satiny sheen.
Where are Syrène bikinis made?
Syrène bikinis are made in Queensland, Australia.
Do Syrène bikinis stretch?
The type if yarn the bikinis are crocheted with does not stretch. The bikini is elasticised to give a fitting stretch, and the top is elasticised for extra fit and support…except for the triangle style. The designer has stopped usinf lycra/cotton stretch yarns as they are not ideal for the type of swimwear she creates. Cotton is heavy when wet and takes forever to dry. When the lycra deteriorates, the bikini loses shape. We don’t have that problem with the lighter thread.
Do I need to have them lined?
If you have had a Brazilian wax, then it is unlikely they will need to be lined. You can discuss your lining queries with the designer at any time. Lining fabric is made of light flesh coloured lingerie lycra.
Can I have extra beading exactly where I want it?
Syrène bikinis are custom made so you can have any kind of beading you like and it can go anywhere on the bikini. You can leave it up to the designer or have your own input…it’s your choice!
What are my colour choices?
Syrène Bikinis can be made from predyed thread available in gold, white, cream, red, pink, black and silver. The hand dyed bikinis are available in an unlimited range of colours and are colour fast. Favourites are shades of sunset and shades of the ocean. You can contact the designer with your own ideas.
How do I order a bikini?
That’s the easy part! Provide Syrène with your measurements, a photo makes it easier but it’s not necessary, your preferences, and you can pay in full or put down a deposit before work commences via bank deposit or pay pal.
How long will the bikini take to make? How long does it take to ship?
The time taken to make depends on a few things: the style, whether or not it’s dyed, if the desired thread is in stock, and how far back you are on the queue. A bikini will take 3 days (triangle top brief Brazilian) to 6 days (any bikini with a balcony underwire top) to make. The domestic shipping takes 1 business day (express post) to 3-6 business days (regular post). International it takes 3-5 days guaranteed and trackable (international express courier) to 3-4 weeks untrackable (air mail).
Can I buy Syrène bikinis in the shops?
No. They are custom made for you individually.
Can you send me a bulk lot of bikinis ASAP?
No. The designer makes bikinis to order one at a time. Bulk orders need plenty of notice with time taken to make in mind. There are no discounts for bulk orders.
I have a full bust. Will Syrène bikinis fit and give support?
Syrène bikini tops are made to fit individual cup sizes and the elasticised balcony underwire gives some extra support, but these bikinis are not lycra, so cannot give the same support as a lycra bikini. The designer does not recommend a crochet bikini for larger than a DD cup. If you have smaller hips and a big bust, beading on the pants takes the eye away from the bust and to the hip. There are lots of tricks that can enhance your best assets.
I have a full bottom. What pants will suit me?
The Brazilian style bikini can actually make the bigger bottom look smaller because of the cut away style. Are you game?
Can I mix and match tops and bottom styles?
Yes!
What is the difference between the varying stitches? Is there a difference in the cost?
There is no difference in cost for the different stitches. Crochet comes in an edless array of stitch styles. The designer has narrowed it down to the ones most suitable for swimwear.
Syrène Bikinis come in 3 stitch choices.
Mesh: The back of the pants are crafted with open stitch at the sides and a solid strip up the centre. The back cannot be lined.
Closed: The whole bikini is crafted using a stitch that has minimal see-through qualities. The bikini can be lined in the pants if desired, although it isn’t always necessary.
Shell: This stitch is an attractive decorative choice. Can be lined.
Scalloped Edging: The edges can be scalloped for a more feminine decorative effect. This can go on any of the above stitch styles.
Are Syrène bikinis mass produced?
No. They are made one at a time by the designer, Tracy Wootton.
Do I qualify for a discount?
If you are Pamela Anderson, you can have a bikini for free. If you are a model who is having a port folio made, a catwalk show or intending to wear the bikini in a public promotional setting, discounts are available. If you are a photographer needing swimwear for a shoot, Syrène can arrange a discount in return for high res shots. Also, if you are a repeat customer, discounts are available for you as well.
Can I wear a Syrène bikini surfing?
You can, but you might find yourself adjusting the triangle top after a wipeout! Would you wear your special evening stilettos bush walking?
Why do Syrène bikinis cost more than other bikinis?
Syrène Bikinis are made individually for each client from fine yarn using a small hook and intricate stitching. Each bikini takes up to 6 days to make…5-8 hours a day including the dying process, beading, lining and elastic. High quality embellishments such as pure silver and Swarovski beading are used. This is exclusive designer wear that is becoming highly sought after. It isn’t mass produced, which means you won’t find anyone else wearing your bikini.
